Behind the Scenes: Rap Class 2011: Dutch Rebelle and Jae Williams

Take a look behind the scenes of the video shoots for the Boston Phoenix Rap Class 2011. Each of the directors who participated deserve a big shout out. Not only did they take a chance on a project that hasn’t really been done before (to my knowledge)- creating original 60-second video clips for a music review- some of the directors had never worked with or even met the artist they were paired with. Look closely and each video is a testament of both the artist and the director.

First up in the series is Dutch Rebelle and Jae Williams. Jae and Dutch both brought an entourage with them to the shoot. It’s been said an artist is only as good as his or her team, and Jae and Dutch both have a solid backing. Jae showed up at my apartment in Somerville at 8 am on a bright Monday morning. It was one of the more elaborate video shoots I’ve done. Jae and his team set up a monitor to watch the action in real time- something you don’t typically see in no-budget shoots.
